Born in 1960 in Najaf as the son of Shaykh Musa al-Ya'qubi.
Primary education at Imam Jawad Private Shi'ite School. Graduated with a B.A. in Civil Engineering from Baghdad University in 1982. Joined the Najaf Hawza in 1988 and completed his religious studies with Ayatollah al-Khu'I in February 1992.
Career & Politics:
The number of books published under his name, which include his own writings and recorded dialogues, as well as books he supervised exceeds 90 titles. He maintained a good relationship with Grand Ayatollah Sadiq al-Sadr.
Political Acitivities after the 2003 Iraq War:
He is considered to be the spiritual father of the Islamic Virtue Party (party profile here), which was established in 2003. He established the theoretical fundaments of the party.
He believes in democracy provided that it respects the wishes of the people, and refers to the people for self determination and how to choose their leaders. He refuses democracy if it is meant to establish legislation that opposes God’s Islamic law.
